The Guardian

The Guardian is one of Britain's most influential quality dailies. Founded in Manchester in 1821 as the Manchester Guardian, it is owned by the Scott Trust, which exists to guarantee its editorial independence, and it sits firmly on the liberal, centre-left side of the British press.

Its journalism spans UK and world news, politics, business, science, football and culture, with standalone US and Australian editions. The Guardian broke the Edward Snowden surveillance files and helped report the Panama Papers, and unlike most rivals its website remains free to read, funded by voluntary reader support.
